To make rice in a rice cooker, follow these general steps:
- Measure the rice using the rice cooker's measuring cup.
- Rinse the rice under cold running water 2-3 times until the water is less cloudy to remove excess starch.
- Drain the rice well.
- Add the rinsed rice to the rice cooker pot and add water in a 1:1 ratio (equal parts water to rice) or slightly more for softer rice.
- Place the pot in the rice cooker and close the lid.
- Turn on the rice cooker and select the appropriate cooking setting if available.
- Once the rice cooker indicates the rice is done (usually by a beep or switching to warm mode), let the rice rest with the lid closed for 5-10 minutes.
- Open the lid, fluff the rice gently with a rice paddle or fork, and serve.
Do not open the lid during cooking to avoid losing steam and moisture essential for properly cooked rice.
