To make a paper popper, follow these simple steps:
- Start with a regular sheet of printer or copy paper, preferably not too stiff.
- Turn the paper to landscape orientation and fold it in half lengthwise (hot dog style). Crease well and then unfold to create a center crease.
- Fold the top edge down to the center crease.
- Fold the top edge down again to the center crease, creating a thick flap along the top.
- Fold this flap down one more time along the center crease to reinforce it.
- Flip the paper over and fold it in half lengthwise again, so the flap is on the outside.
- Hold the paper by the ends, with the flap side facing you. Pull the flap end across to the opposite side, then pinch the bottom corners to form a triangle shape.
- To make it pop, flick your wrist downward quickly while holding the paper by the ends. The air trapped inside snaps the flap back, creating a loud popping sound.
This paper popper can be used repeatedly by refolding it as needed. It’s a fun and easy origami toy that produces a surprising pop with just a single sheet of paper
