To hide your location on Instagram and prevent location sharing, follow these steps based on the latest 2025 Instagram features:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Go to your Direct Messages (DMs) by tapping the arrow icon or messages icon in the top right corner.
- At the top of your inbox, tap the map icon or Instagram Map feature.
- Tap the settings gear icon in the top right corner of the map screen.
- Under location sharing preferences, select "No one" to stop sharing your location with anyone.
- To further ensure your location is hidden, go to your phone's Settings:
- On iPhone or Android, open Privacy & Security > Location Services.
- Find Instagram in the app list and set its location access to "Never" or "Off."
This disables Instagram's access to your location on the device level so even if the feature is on, Instagram cannot get your location. Additionally, Instagram’s location sharing feature is off by default, and you only share your live location if you actively choose to enable it and select who to share with.
