To fishtail braid your hair, follow these steps:
- Divide Hair into Two Sections
Start by parting your hair down the middle into two equal sections
- Take a Small Section from One Side
From the outer edge of the right section, take a small pencil-sized piece of hair
- Cross It Over to the Opposite Side
Cross that small section over the right section and add it to the left section
- Repeat on the Other Side
Now take a small section from the outer edge of the left section and cross it over to join the right section
- Continue Alternating Sides
Keep taking small sections from the outside of each half and crossing them over to the opposite side, alternating sides as you go down the length of your hair
- Secure the End
When you reach the end of your hair, secure the braid with a small elastic band
- Loosen the Braid for Volume
Gently pull apart the braid on the sides to make it look fuller and more voluminous
Tips:
- Use small sections for a more distinct fishtail pattern; larger sections will look more like a regular braid
- You can do the braid over your shoulder or at the back of your head depending on preference and comfort
- It may take some practice to get the hand motions smooth, but it becomes easier with repetition
This method creates the classic fishtail braid, which is a stylish and intricate-looking braid made by weaving small sections from two main strands
