To fill out a postcard properly, follow these steps:
- Write the recipient’s address on the back, right side
Most postcards have pre-printed lines on the back right side for the address. If not, write the address neatly in the top right corner of the back. Make sure it’s legible and not too large, as you need space for your message. The stamp goes in the upper right corner above or next to the address
- Add a postage stamp
Place the stamp in the upper right corner on the address side. Check postage requirements, especially for international mail, as you may need more than one stamp
- Write your message on the back, left side
Use the left side of the back for your message. Start with a greeting, such as “Hello!” or a local phrase. Write about your trip, what you’ve seen, eaten, or any fun stories. You can also include the date in the top right corner of the message side to help the recipient know when you sent it
- Sign your postcard
End your message with a friendly sign-off and your name, like “Wish you were here,” “With love,” or “See you soon”
- Optional: Don’t worry about a return address
Postcards usually don’t require a return address. If you want, you can add it, but it’s not necessary
- Drop it in the mail
Once complete, drop your postcard in a mailbox or take it to the post office
