To enable macros in Excel, follow these steps:
- Open Excel and go to the File tab.
- Click Options at the bottom of the left sidebar.
- In the Excel Options window, select Trust Center from the list on the left.
- Click Trust Center Settings.
- In the Trust Center window, select Macro Settings on the left.
- Choose the macro setting you want:
- Disable all macros with notification (default): Macros are disabled, but you get notified to enable them on demand.
- Disable all macros except digitally signed macros : Only macros with a trusted digital signature run automatically.
- Enable all macros : All macros are enabled (this option carries security risks).
- Optionally, check Trust access to the VBA project object model if your macros require it.
- Click OK to apply the settings and close the dialogs.
Once these steps are done, macros will be enabled according to your chosen setting. For security, enabling all macros is usually not recommended unless you trust the source of the macros. If you want to enable macros for just one session, you can also open your file and click the yellow security warning bar that appears to "Enable Content" temporarily for that session. These instructions work for Microsoft 365, Excel 2021, 2019, and 2016 versions.
