To close a Facebook account, you can either deactivate it temporarily or delete it permanently. Here is how to do both:
- Open Facebook (app or web).
- Go to the menu (three-line icon).
- Select Settings & Privacy > Settings > Meta Accounts Center > Personal details > Account ownership and control > Deactivation or deletion.
- To deactivate (temporary closure), select "Deactivate account" and follow the steps.
- To delete permanently, select "Delete account" and follow the prompts, including entering your password.
- After confirming deletion, the account will be deactivated immediately and fully deleted after 30 days if not logged back in.
Deactivation lets you reactivate anytime by logging back in, while deletion removes the account permanently after about 30 days, with loss of all data and access to connected Meta services. This process is the same on both mobile apps (iOS, Android) and the Facebook website on PC or Mac.
