To clean a dry erase board effectively:
- Erase all the writing on the board thoroughly using a good eraser to remove as much dry-ink dust as possible from the surface.
- Apply a specialized dry erase board cleaner spray evenly over the board. For whiteboards, use a cleaner formulated for porcelain, melamine, or painted steel surfaces. For glass boards, use a vinegar-based glass board cleaner that prevents streaking.
- Wipe off the cleaning solution thoroughly with a dry microfiber cloth or towel. Use a second dry towel to remove any residue completely so the board surface is dry and ready for use.
Additional tips:
- Erase the board after every use to prevent staining.
- Cap markers tightly to keep ink fresh and easier to erase.
- Wash or replace erasers regularly as residue can build up.
- For stubborn stains, use isopropyl alcohol (70-91%), applying it with a soft cloth and wiping well.
- Homemade cleaners like a vinegar-water mix can also be effective and gentle.
Avoid abrasive cleaners like toothpaste or Ben-Gay, which can damage the board surface over time.
