To block or hide your phone number when making calls, you have several options depending on whether you want to do it temporarily (per call) or permanently:
Block Your Number Temporarily (Per Call)
- Dial *67 (in the US and some other regions) before the phone number you want to call. This hides your number for that call only, showing "Private" or "Blocked" on the recipient's caller ID
- Alternatively, you can dial #31# before the number on many phones to block your caller ID for that call
- For home phones, dial 1831 before the number to block your caller ID on that call
Block Your Number Permanently (All Calls)
On Android:
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the menu (three dots), then Settings.
- Go to Calls > Additional settings > Caller ID.
- Select "Hide number" to block your number on all outgoing calls
On iPhone:
- Go to Settings > Phone.
- Tap "Show My Caller ID."
- Toggle it off to hide your number on all calls
Carrier Assistance:
- You can also contact your wireless carrier to request permanent caller ID blocking on your line
Unblocking Your Number
- To unblock your number temporarily on a per-call basis, dial *82 or ***31# before the number
Additional Notes
- Blocking your number means the recipient sees "Private," "Blocked," or "Unknown" instead of your number.
- Some carriers or recipients may block calls from private numbers.
- Blocking a number you receive calls from (to stop them calling you) is a different process involving blocking that contact on your device or carrier
This covers both how to block your number when calling someone and how to block incoming numbers if needed.
