To block someone on Gmail, follow these steps: On Desktop:
- Open Gmail and open an email from the sender you want to block.
- Click the three vertical dots (More) at the top right of the email.
- Select "Block [sender's name]" from the dropdown menu.
- Confirm by clicking "Block." Future emails from this sender will go to your Spam folder automatically
On Mobile (Gmail app):
- Open the Gmail app and open an email from the sender you want to block.
- Tap the three horizontal dots menu.
- Choose "Block [sender's name]." Future emails from this sender will be sent to Spam
Additional options:
- To completely delete emails from a blocked sender (not just send to Spam), you can create a filter:
- Copy the sender's email address.
- Go to Gmail Settings > See all settings > Filters and Blocked Addresses.
- Create a new filter with the sender's address in the "From" field.
- Choose the option to "Delete it" so emails from this sender are automatically deleted.
- Apply the filter to existing emails if desired
Managing blocked addresses:
- On desktop, go to Gmail Settings > See all settings > Filters and Blocked Addresses to view or unblock addresses you have blocked
Blocking a sender in Gmail does not notify them, and their emails will be moved to Spam but not deleted unless you set up a filter. Also, blocking in Gmail only affects email and does not block the sender on other Google services
. This is the standard and easiest way to block unwanted emails on Gmail.
