To block your phone number when making calls, you have several options depending on your device and whether you want to block it temporarily or permanently:
Temporary (Per-Call) Number Blocking
- Dial *67 (on most phones and landlines) before the phone number you want to call. This will block your caller ID for that call only, and the recipient will see "Private" or "Blocked" instead of your number
- Alternatively, you can dial #31# before the number on some phones to block your caller ID for that call
Permanent Number Blocking
On Android Phones:
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the three dots (menu) and select Settings.
- Tap Calls or Call settings.
- Select Additional settings.
- Tap Caller ID.
- Choose Hide number to block your number on all outgoing calls
On iPhones:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Phone.
- Tap Show My Caller ID.
- Toggle it off to hide your number on all calls
Through Your Carrier:
- Contact your phone service provider and request a permanent block on your caller ID. Some carriers offer an "unlisted" or "silent line" service to permanently hide your number, but fees or conditions may apply
Additional Notes:
- To check your current caller ID status, dial *#31# and press call; a message will indicate if your number is hidden or shown
- If you have permanently blocked your number but want to unblock it for a specific call, dial *82 before the number
- Blocking your number may cause some recipients to reject your call if they block private or anonymous calls.
These methods work on most smartphones and landlines, but exact menu names may vary slightly by device model and software version
