To block your number when making an outgoing call, you have several options depending on your phone and carrier:
- Use a code before dialing:
- Dial #31# before the number you are calling to block your caller ID for that call.
- On some networks, *67 works to hide your number for a single call (mostly for landlines).
- Change your phone settings to hide your number for all calls:
- On Android:
- Open the Phone app > Settings > Calls > Additional settings > Caller ID > Select "Hide number".
- On iPhone:
- Go to Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID > toggle off to hide your number.
- On Android:
- Keep in mind some numbers like emergency services or toll-free numbers may not allow number blocking.
- If you want permanent privacy from your carrier, you can also ask your carrier to block your number by default.
Note: When your number is blocked, the receiver will see "Private," "Blocked," or "Unknown" instead of your number. If the call goes to voicemail, your number may still be visible there. These steps allow you to either block your number on a call-by-call basis or block it for all calls from your phone depending on how you configure the settings or use codes on the dialer.
