To become a DoorDash driver (called a Dasher), follow these steps and meet the requirements:
Basic Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old (in some states, the minimum age is 19: Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, West Virginia).
- Have a mode of transportation: car, scooter, motorcycle, bicycle (in select cities), or even on foot in some locations.
- Possess a valid driver’s license if delivering by car, motorcycle, or scooter.
- Have auto insurance that meets your state’s minimum requirements if driving a vehicle.
- Have a Social Security number (or Social Insurance Number in Canada).
- Own a smartphone (iOS or Android) to use the DoorDash app.
- Consent to and pass a background check, which includes a criminal and driving history review
How to Sign Up
- Register online by providing your email, phone number, and zip code.
- Create a profile with your name and password.
- Download the DoorDash Dasher app on your smartphone.
- Add your vehicle type and upload necessary documentation (driver’s license, ID, insurance).
- Verify your identity by uploading a government-issued ID and a selfie.
- Complete the background check.
- Once approved, connect your bank account for direct deposit and start accepting delivery requests

- After your first delivery, DoorDash sends a Dasher activation kit with items like a food warming bag and Red Card.
- You can choose how and when to get paid, with options for instant cash out.
- If you don’t have a car, you can still deliver by bike or scooter in eligible cities.
- The background check usually takes 5-7 days but can be faster or longer depending on your record
