To add page numbers in Google Docs, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Google Doc.
  2. Click on the Insert menu at the top.
  3. Select Header & page number, then choose Page number.
  4. Pick where you want the page numbers to appear:
    • Top of the page (header) or bottom of the page (footer).
    • Whether to include the first page or not (title pages often exclude numbering).
  5. If you want more customization, click More options to:
    • Start numbering from a specific page.
    • Choose a different starting number.
  6. Click Apply to insert the page numbers throughout your document.

You can then click into the header or footer to adjust the alignment or add text alongside the page number if desired

. If you want to start page numbering from a specific page (e.g., skip numbering on the title page), you need to insert a section break before that page:

  • Place the cursor at the start of the page where numbering should begin.
  • Go to Insert > Break > Section break (next page).
  • Then insert page numbers in that section, untick "Link to previous" in the header/footer options, and set the page numbering to start at 1

This method allows precise control over page numbering in your document.
