The Nobel Prize is awarded annually. Except in extraordinary circumstances, such as war, all six Nobel Prizes—covering physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, peace, and economic sciences—are given each year. The awards are announced in early October and the formal award ceremonies take place on December 10, the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel.
