The Federal Reserve (Fed) meets eight times a year, approximately every six to eight weeks. These meetings are scheduled in advance and typically last two days. During these meetings, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) discusses and sets monetary policy, including decisions on interest rates. The Fed can also hold unscheduled emergency meetings if needed. The meetings usually conclude with an announcement about interest rates and a press conference by the Federal Reserve Chair. The scheduled meetings for 2025 are on January 28-29, March 18-19, May 6-7, June 17-18, July 29-30, September 16-17, October 28-29, and December 9-10.
