The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded annually. It is given each year to an individual or organization who has done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies, and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses. The award is presented annually in Oslo, Norway, usually announced in October, with the award ceremony held on December 10th, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death. Although it is an annual award, there have been occasional years, especially during major wars, when the prize was not awarded due to the committee not finding a suitable recipient or believing that peace efforts had halted.
