Pepto Bismol can be taken every 30 to 60 minutes as needed, with a maximum of 8 doses in 24 hours. A single dose is typically 30 ml of liquid or 2 tablets (caplets or chewable) for adults and children over 12 years. It should not be taken for more than 2 days to avoid increased risk of side effects. If symptoms persist or worsen after 2 days, consult a doctor. Children under 12 should ask a doctor before taking it. Also, when taking Pepto Bismol for diarrhea, drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
