In a One Day International (ODI) cricket match, there are three powerplay blocks
. These powerplays are mandatory and divide the 50 overs of an innings into three phases
. The powerplay rules dictate the number of fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle
. The three powerplay blocks are:
- Overs 1-10: A maximum of two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle
. This is also known as the mandatory powerplay
- Overs 11-40: A maximum of four fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle
- Overs 41-50: A maximum of five fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle
