As of October 2025, there are 48 Israeli hostages still held in Gaza. Among them, the Israeli government believes that 20 hostages are still alive, 26 have been confirmed deceased, and the status of two others remains uncertain. The living hostages are mostly young men in their 20s and 30s, with women, children, and older men having been released in earlier agreements. A recent peace deal is expected to lead to the release of the remaining living hostages within a short timeframe, while the deceased hostages' bodies are to be returned later.
