how many hostages are still alive

There are 48 hostages still held in Gaza as of October 2025. Of these, 20 hostages are believed to be alive, 26 have been declared deceased by the Israeli government, and the status of two others remains uncertain. The living hostages are mostly men in their 20s and 30s. Women, children, and men over 50 were released in previous ceasefire agreements. The remaining hostages who are alive are expected to be released soon as part of a peace deal brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump.
