The United States government is divided into three branches: the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. This division is established by the U.S. Constitution to ensure a separation of powers and prevent any individual or group from gaining too much power
- The Legislative Branch (Congress) is responsible for making laws and is composed of two parts: the Senate and the House of Representatives
- The Executive Branch is led by the President and is responsible for enforcing laws. It includes the President, Vice President, Cabinet members, and various federal agencies
- The Judicial Branch interprets laws and ensures they comply with the Constitution. It consists of the Supreme Court and other federal courts
This three-branch system also incorporates a system of checks and balances, allowing each branch to monitor and limit the powers of the others to maintain balance in government
