A Major League Baseball (MLB) regular season consists of 162 games for each team. This has been the standard since 1961 for the American League and 1962 for the National League. Each team plays 81 home games and 81 away games over approximately six months, usually starting in late March or early April and ending in late September or early October. The total number of games played across all 30 MLB teams in a regular season is 2,430 games, not including the postseason. There have been exceptions, such as during strikes or the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season, but the regular season normally has 162 games per team.
