The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is approximately 8 miles (13 kilometers) long, including its two main suspension spans, a large tunnel, a cantilever bridge, and viaducts. The total length includes bridge approaches on both the San Francisco and Oakland sides.
Additionally, another bridge called the Chesapeake Bay Bridge spans about 4.3 miles across the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, but this is a different structure from the Bay Bridge in San Francisco.
