The AP Chemistry exam lasts a total of 3 hours and 15 minutes. It is divided into two main sections:
- Section 1: Multiple Choice
- 60 questions
- 90 minutes (1 hour 30 minutes)
- Accounts for 50% of the exam score
- Section 2: Free Response
- 7 questions (3 long-form and 4 short-form)
- 105 minutes (1 hour 45 minutes)
- Accounts for 50% of the exam score
- The first 60 minutes are for the 3 long-form questions, followed by 45 minutes for the 4 short-form questions
A scientific or graphing calculator is recommended for use on both sections. The exam provides a periodic table and formula sheet for reference
