To make cold brew coffee:
- Grind coffee beans to a medium-coarse consistency
. If you don’t have a grinder, buy coarsely ground beans or grind them at a local coffee shop
. Do not use pre-ground coffee
- Add the coffee grounds to a large container
. A mason jar, pitcher, or French press will work
- Pour cold or filtered water over the grounds
. Use a ratio of 1:2 coffee to water, or 1 1/2 cups of grounds for every 3 cups of water
. Or use a 4:1 water to coffee bean ratio
. Use a spoon to saturate all the grounds
- Cover and let sit at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours
. The longer the coffee steeps, the stronger it will be
- Strain the coffee using a fine-mesh sieve, cheesecloth, or paper filters
. If using a French press, press down on the filter
- Store the coffee in the fridge
- Serve over ice, diluting it with water or milk to taste
. Because cold brew is a concentrate, don’t drink it straight
