To hide your phone number when making calls, you have several options depending on your device and preferences:
For Android Phones
1. Use a prefix code for single calls:
- Dial *67 (in the US) or #31# (in India) before the phone number you want to call. This will make your number appear as "Private" or "Blocked" to the recipient for that call only
2. Change your phone settings to hide your number permanently:
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the menu (three dots) and go to Settings.
- Select Calls or Call settings, then Additional settings or Supplementary services.
- Tap Caller ID and choose "Hide number" or "Never" to block your number on all outgoing calls.
- To show your number on a specific call while this setting is active, dial *82 before the number
3. Contact your mobile carrier:
- Some carriers can block your number at the network level. You may need to call customer service or use their app to enable this feature
For iPhones
- Go to Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID.
- Toggle off "Show My Caller ID" to hide your number on outgoing calls.
- You can also use *67 before a number to block your number for a single call
Additional Notes
- Emergency numbers and toll-free numbers usually cannot be blocked.
- Some organizations or businesses may still see your number despite blocking.
- Apps like Google Voice or Burner can provide alternate numbers for privacy
Using these methods, you can control when and how your phone number is displayed to others when you call.
