To know if you have Medicare Part D, the prescription drug coverage part of Medicare, you can:
- Check if you have a separate Medicare Part D prescription drug plan card or paperwork from a private insurance company, as these plans are run by private insurers.
- Review your Medicare card(s). Original Medicare (Part A and B) cards do not include drug coverage, so if you have Part D, you will have a separate card or confirmation.
- Log into your Medicare.gov account online to view your current Medicare coverage details.
- Call Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) and ask a representative to confirm if you are enrolled in Part D.
- Ask your pharmacist if they have Part D prescription coverage on file when filling prescriptions.
- Check your Social Security statements or financial records for payments or premiums related to Part D coverage.
Medicare Part D plans are optional and can be standalone plans if you have Original Medicare or incorporated within Medicare Advantage plans if you have Part C. You need to actively enroll in a Part D plan during certain enrollment periods unless you have a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage already.
