To block your number when making a call, you have several options depending on whether you want to block it for a single call or for all calls, and whether you are using an iPhone, Android, or landline:
Block Your Number for a Single Call
- Dial *67 before the phone number you want to call. This hides your number for that call only, and the recipient will see "Private" or "Blocked" on their caller ID
- On some networks, you can also use #31# before the number to block your caller ID temporarily for that call
Block Your Number by Default on Your Phone
On iPhone:
- Go to Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID.
- Toggle off Show My Caller ID to hide your number on all outgoing calls.
- Note: Some carriers like Verizon may not support this feature
On Android:
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the menu (three dots) > Settings > Calls > Additional settings > Caller ID.
- Select Hide number to block your number on all calls.
- To unblock for a specific call, dial *82 before the number
Ask Your Carrier to Block Your Number
- Contact your mobile carrier’s customer support (usually by dialing 611).
- They can block your number on outgoing calls at the network level.
- You can still use *82 to unblock your number temporarily if needed
Use a Burner App
- If you want to keep your personal number private, you can use burner phone apps that provide a second number for calls
Additional Notes:
- Blocking your number may not work when calling emergency or toll-free numbers.
- Some recipients may block calls from private numbers.
- If your call goes to voicemail, your number might still be visible there
In summary, the easiest way for a one-time private call is to dial *67 before the number. For permanent blocking, adjust your phone’s caller ID settings or ask your carrier to block your number by default
