Selena Quintanilla died on March 31, 1995, from a gunshot wound inflicted by Yolanda Saldívar, the former president of her fan club. Saldívar shot Selena in the back near her shoulder blade after a confrontation over financial discrepancies. Despite Selena's efforts to get help and the rapid arrival of emergency services, she suffered massive internal bleeding caused by the bullet severing a major artery. Selena was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m. from excessive blood loss and cardiac arrest at Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital in Texas at the age of 23.
