Scar's scar has multiple origin stories depending on the source:
- In Mufasa: The Lion King (2024), Scar, originally named Taka, receives his scar while heroically saving Mufasa from a rogue lion named Kiros. During the rescue, Taka blocks an attack from Kiros, which leaves him with the permanent scar on his face. This act of bravery occurs twice, including saving Mufasa from crocodile-infested waters and a cave collapse. Afterward, Taka renames himself Scar as a symbol of both his injury and his eventual betrayal of Mufasa
- In The Lion Guard series, Scar (named Askari in this story) gets his scar when a mysterious lion lures him into a trap where a cobra bites him on the eye. The venom from the bite not only leaves the scar but also poisons his mind, making him crueler and fueling his desire to overthrow Mufasa
- In the 1994 book A Tale of Two Brothers , Scar (Taka) is attacked by a water buffalo during a plan that goes wrong. The buffalo slashes him across the eye, causing the scar. This incident deepens his resentment toward Mufasa and sets him on a path of jealousy and betrayal
- Some fan theories and interpretations suggest the scar might have come from a fight with Mufasa, an accident, or even inflicted by their father, but these are not official canon
In summary, the most widely accepted canonical explanations are either from the Mufasa: The Lion King movie where the scar is from protecting Mufasa against a rogue lion, or from The Lion Guard where a cobra bite causes the scar and poisons Scar's mind. The water buffalo attack is another official origin from the book version
