Pablo Escobar died on December 2, 1993, during a shootout with Colombian authorities in Medellín. He was shot multiple times—in the leg, torso, and a fatal shot through the right ear—while attempting to escape across rooftops. The gunfight occurred after Colombian special forces, known as the Search Bloc, tracked his location through a phone call. Though officially reported as being shot and killed by the police, there has been speculation and controversy over whether Escobar took his own life or who exactly fired the fatal shot. His death marked the collapse of the Medellín cartel he led.
