Fidel Castro died of natural causes in his sleep on the evening of November 25, 2016, at the age of 90. His death was announced by his brother Raúl Castro on Cuban state television. Although Castro had experienced serious health issues in the years leading up to his death, including complications from diverticulitis and was reported to have Parkinson's disease, the official cause of death was natural causes. His body was later cremated and his ashes were interred in Santiago de Cuba on December 4, 2016.
