Felix Baumgartner died in a paragliding accident on July 17, 2025, in Porto Sant'Elpidio, Italy. During the flight, he lost consciousness, likely due to a cardiac arrest, which caused him to lose control of the paraglider. He crashed into a wooden structure near a swimming pool at a family camping village, where he was pronounced dead on impact. One person on the ground was injured by debris from the crash. An autopsy confirmed Baumgartner was already dead before the impact. Just hours before the accident, he had posted a message on Instagram about "too much wind" during his flight. Baumgartner was 56 years old and was renowned for his record-breaking jump from the edge of space in 2012, where he became the first person to break the sound barrier without the aid of a vehicle.
