Che Guevara died on October 9, 1967. He was captured by Bolivian Special Forces, wounded during a firefight, and then executed by a Bolivian army sergeant named Mario Terán under orders from the Bolivian president. Guevara was shot multiple times, including bullets to his arms, legs, chest, and throat, and he reportedly shouted at his executioner to "Shoot, coward!" before being killed. His hands were cut off after his death to confirm his identity through fingerprint analysis. His body was then flown to the town of Vallegrande, where it was displayed briefly before being secretly buried to prevent it from becoming a revolutionary symbol.
