Charles Dickens died on June 9, 1870, at the age of 58. He suffered a stroke during dinner at his home, Gads Hill Place, near Rochester, Kent, England. Despite medical efforts, including the summoning of a leading neurologist, Dickens did not recover and passed away the following day at 6:10 pm. His death was sudden and marked the end of an era in literature. At the time, he was working on his final novel, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, which remained unfinished.
