Bob Marley passed away from complications due to acral lentiginous melanoma, a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer. The cancer originated from a lesion under his right big toe's toenail, which Marley initially thought was a soccer injury. Despite medical advice to amputate the toe, he chose to remove only the nail and some tissue. Over the years, the cancer metastasized to vital organs including his lungs, brain, and liver. Marley died at the age of 36 on May 11, 1981, in Miami after an emergency landing while trying to return to Jamaica for treatment. His death was ultimately caused by the spread of this aggressive melanoma.
