Alexander Hamilton died as a result of a gunshot wound suffered in a duel with Aaron Burr on July 11, 1804. During the duel in Weehawken, New Jersey, Burr shot Hamilton in the abdomen, just above his right hip. The bullet fractured a rib, tore through his diaphragm and liver, and lodged in his spine.
