To upgrade weapons in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, follow these steps:
- Unlock The Curator : You gain access to weapon upgrades after progressing through the story and recruiting a specific character in the Manor of The Flying Waters area. This typically happens a few hours into the game (around 3-4 hours)
- Set up Camp : From the Continent world map, establish a Camp. The Curator can be found in a cave near the main campfire area at Camp
- Interact with The Curator : Speak to The Curator and select the "Upgrade Weapons" option. You can then choose which party member's weapon to upgrade and select the weapon to improve
- Gather Chroma Catalysts : Upgrading requires specific materials called Chroma Catalysts, which come in different rarities depending on the upgrade level:
- Chroma Catalyst: upgrade weapons up to Level 3
- Polished Chroma Catalyst: up to Level 9
- Resplendent Chroma Catalyst: up to Level 19
- Grandiose Chroma Catalyst: up to Level 32
- Perfect Chroma Catalyst: up to Level 33 (max level)
- Upgrade Incrementally : Weapons are upgraded one level at a time, consuming the required Chroma Catalysts per level. Higher levels require rarer catalysts and more resources
- Additional Upgrades : Upgrading weapons improves their attack power, attribute boosts (like Agility and Luck), and unlocks bonus abilities at levels 4, 10, and 20
- Alternative Upgrades : You can also acquire upgraded versions of weapons by defeating specific enemies or bosses who drop upgraded weapons if you already own the base weapon
