Yes, cats have baby teeth, also called deciduous or milk teeth, which do fall out. Kittens develop about 26 baby teeth starting around 2 to 4 weeks of age, and these teeth begin to fall out around 12 weeks (3 months) old. The baby teeth are replaced by a full set of 30 adult teeth by about six months of age, although this process can sometimes take up to nine months. During this teething period, kittens may chew excessively and have sore gums. Occasionally, some baby teeth may not fall out on their own, which can cause problems and might require veterinary removal. Baby teeth in kittens are smaller, sharper, and have smaller roots compared to adult teeth, which have longer roots firmly anchored in the jawbone.
