Brandon Blackstock had melanoma, which is a serious and aggressive form of skin cancer. Melanoma arises from melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin color. It is considered the most dangerous type of skin cancer because it can rapidly spread to other organs if not caught early. Despite being highly treatable when detected promptly, melanoma poses high risks as it can quickly disseminate through the bloodstream and lymphatic system, making it potentially lethal. Brandon Blackstock battled melanoma privately for over three years before passing away peacefully on August 7, 2025, at the age of 48. His family confirmed his extended fight with the disease and requested privacy during the difficult time. The cancer was confirmed as malignant melanoma on his death certificate, listing the manner of death as natural causes. Melanoma treatments often include surgery, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or chemotherapy, depending on the stage of the disease. His illness became publicly known when his ex-wife, Kelly Clarkson, postponed her Las Vegas residency to be present for their children during his illness. He passed away surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Butte, Montana.
