When we want to visually examine the relationship between two quantitative variables, the most commonly used graph is a scatterplot. A scatterplot displays points where each point represents an observation with coordinates corresponding to the values of the two variables. This allows us to see the strength, direction, and form of the relationship between the variables, such as whether they are positively or negatively correlated, or if no clear pattern exists. Other formats such as bar graphs, line graphs, and pie charts are generally not suitable for visually examining relationships between two quantitative variables. Hence, scatterplots are used for visually examining relationships between two quantitative variables.
