Maine Coon cats are not hypoallergenic. They produce the common cat allergen protein Fel d 1 in amounts similar to other cats, and their long fur can carry more allergens like saliva and dander. Although some individual Maine Coons may produce fewer allergens, the breed overall is not considered suitable for people with cat allergies, especially severe ones. Allergy sufferers with mild symptoms may sometimes tolerate Maine Coons better with strategies like regular grooming, cleaning, and medication, but generally, they are not recommended for those with significant allergies.
