Fani Willis is an American attorney serving as the district attorney of Fulton County, Georgia, including most of Atlanta, since 2021. She is the first woman to hold this office in the county. Willis is known for her high-profile prosecutions, including the investigation into the 2020 presidential election in Georgia that led to indictments against former President Donald Trump and others on charges of racketeering and election interference. She also prosecuted the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal and cases involving charges against rappers under Georgia's RICO Act. Willis has gained a reputation as a dogged and prepared prosecutor with significant trial experience. However, she was permanently removed from prosecuting the Trump election interference case in 2025 due to a conflict of interest related to a romantic relationship with a lead prosecutor on the case. Before becoming district attorney, she was a prosecutor and then worked in private practice. She was elected DA in 2020, defeating the six-term incumbent.
