The Flying Scotsman is currently active in 2025 and making special appearances on heritage railways as part of the Railway 200 bicentenary celebrations. After a stay at the Nene Valley Railway early in the year and an Easter display at the National Railway Museum in York, it visited Didcot Railway Centre in May and June, then the Locomotion museum in County Durham over the summer. As of late 2025, the Flying Scotsman is scheduled to run special services on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway between Grosmont and Pickering during October and November. It also appeared at the Titans of Steam festival in Darlington in September. Previously, it helped celebrate the reopening of the full Severn Valley Railway line through Bridgnorth, offering rides that sold out quickly. Thus, the locomotive is mostly operating on heritage railways around the UK this year, with its base and displays connected to the National Railway Museum in York and related sites.
