Governor Brian Kemp and the Georgia Department of Revenue began sending out one-time special tax refund checks in early June 2025. Eligible taxpayers who filed their 2023 and 2024 state tax returns on time (by May 1, 2025) can expect their refunds within about 6 to 8 weeks after filing, that is mostly between mid-June and late June 2025. Some people have already received direct deposit refunds starting around June 16, 2025. The refund amounts vary based on filing status:
- $250 for single filers or married filing separately
- $375 for head of household filers
- $500 for married couples filing jointly
Refunds are being issued daily in batches, either as direct deposits or paper checks depending on the taxpayer's chosen refund method. The majority of refunds were expected to be issued by July 1, 2025. Therefore, if taxpayers met eligibility and filing deadlines, they should anticipate receiving their checks mainly from mid-June through the end of June 2025, with some checks still being processed daily after that.
