when was the first computer invented

The first computer in a general sense was the mechanical Antikythera mechanism from roughly 200 BC to 70 BC. However, the first programmable computer concept was invented by Charles Babbage in 1822. His designs, including the Difference Engine and later the Analytical Engine, laid the foundation for modern computers, but these machines were never completed in his lifetime due to funding issues. The first electronic general-purpose digital computer that actually worked was the ENIAC, completed in 1945 and introduced in 1946.
