The retailer originally named Sound of Music is Best Buy. It was founded in 1966 in St. Paul, Minnesota, as an audio specialty store called Sound of Music. The company changed its name to Best Buy in 1983 after a tornado damaged one of its stores and they held a successful "Tornado Sale" advertising "best buys" on everything. This event inspired the company to adopt a big-box, high-volume, low-price business model and expand its product offerings beyond audio equipment to a wide range of consumer electronics.
