A seed phrase is a sequence of 12 to 24 random words generated by a cryptocurrency wallet that stores the data required to access or recover a crypto wallet. It acts like a master key, allowing the owner to regain access to their funds if they lose their device or forget their password. The seed phrase is essentially a human-readable backup of the private keys that control a wallet's cryptocurrency. It must be kept secure and private because anyone with access to the seed phrase can control the associated funds. Seed phrases follow a standard called BIP39, which converts the phrase into a binary seed that generates all related cryptographic keys for the wallet.
