Stink bugs primarily eat plants, fruits, and vegetables. They feed on a wide variety of crops including apples, peaches, pears, grapes, tomatoes, peppers, corn, beans (especially soybeans), cucumbers, eggplants, and many more. They use their needle-like mouthparts to pierce the skin of fruits and vegetables and suck out the juices and sap, often causing damage to the produce. Some species also feed on ornamental plants like flowers, shrubs, and trees. Additionally, a few species of stink bugs are predatory and feed on other insects such as potato beetles and caterpillars, but most stink bugs are herbivores focused on plant material. Inside homes, they may feed on houseplants or any exposed fruit but usually enter homes looking for shelter rather than food.
